AWS Storage Gateway
AWS Storage Gateway is a service connecting an on-premises software appliance with cloud-based storage to provide seamless and secure integration between an organization’s on-premises IT environment and AWS storage infrastructure.
The service enables you to store data securely on the AWS cloud in a scalable and cost-effective manner. AWS Storage Gateway supports industry-standard storage protocols that work with your existing applications.It provide slow-latency performance by caching frequently accessed data on- premises while encrypting and storing all of your data in Amazon S3 or Amazon Glacier
Mainly we have three types of Gateways:
Store files as objects in Amazon S3,with a local cache for low-latency access to your most recently used data.All the files are stored directly on S3 we can access through NFS mount points.

2. Volume Gateway
The volume interface presents your applications with disk volumes using the ISCSI block protocol
Data written to these volumes can be a synchronously backed up as point-in-time snapshots of your volumes,and stored in the cloud as Amazon EBS snapshots.
Snapshots are incremental backups that capture only changed blocks.All snapshots to rage is also compressed to minimize your storage charges.
Volume gateway Stored Volumes – Entire primary Data set is stored locally and data is a synchronously backed up to S3 inform of Amazon EBS snapshots(1GB–16TB in size for stored volumes).
Backup your data to Amazon S3 and archive in Amazon Glacier using your existing tape-based processes.Supports popular backup applications like Net Backup,Backup Exec,Veeam etc.
AWS Cloud Trail:
AWS Cloud Trail is a service that enables governance, compliance, operational auditing, and risk auditing of your AWS account.With Cloud Trail,you can log,continuously monitor,and retain account activity related to actions across your AWS infrastructure.
Cloud Trail provides even this story of your AWS account activity,including actions taken through the AWS Management Console, AWS SDKs, command line tools, and other AWS services. This even this story simplifies security analysis,resource change tracking,and trouble shooting
We can find the Cloud trail under Management Tool in AWS dashboard.
Here is the cloud Trail dashboard,By default we can view the last 90 days all events here.
If you want to store the logs more than 90 days,we need to create aTrail and need to copy into S3 bucket.
Select the “Create trail”option to start. And give a Trail Name.
Select Yes option if you want to apply this trail to all the regions.
Choose the Management events you want to track (All/Read-Only/Write-only/None)
Select the Data events if required (Additional Charges apply for this service)
Then choose the Storage location,Cloud Trail logs will store in s3 buckets.We can choose an existing bucket or create a new bucket.Select yes if you want to create a new bucket or No to choose an existing bucket from your AWS account.
Our cloudTrail log is successfully created.Let’s navigate to S3 bucket to verify the logs.Logs will store Region wise and after that Year,Month and Date.
]Every Log Contains the below data:
- Metadata around API calls
- The identity of the API caller
- The time of the API call
- The source IP address of the API caller
- The request parameters
The response elements returned by the service
